Three dead, more than a dozen injured in fire at Manhattan building

Three people died and more than a dozen were injured after a massive fire tore through a six-floor walk up in Manhattan early Monday, officials said.

Nearly 200 first responders rushed to the apartment building on Dyckman Street in Inwood at about 12:30 a.m. to find multiple terrified residents trying to flee from the fire escape.

“This fire was a very serious fire. It unfortunately resulted in many patients,” Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore said.

At least 14 people were injured, including five who are in critical condition.

The fire broke out on the first floor before tearing through the building — impacting eight apartments, officials said.

“There is one single stairway in this building; the fire was consuming it from the first floor to the roof,” FDNY Chief John Esposito said.

Roughly 100 people have been displaced as a result of the blaze.
