Rick Fox — the former NBA champion who’s running for a seat in the Bahamian legislature — was involved in a wild dustup at a campaign rally in the Bahamas this week.
Fox and his political team were out at an event Wednesday trying to garner votes for the ex-Lakers star, when they got into a tiff with at least one bystander over the placement of one of their tents.
Video circulating on social media shows Fox got riled up after a man who tried to get him to move his setup told him, “I don’t give a f—k about no rules here.”
Fox seemed to try to lunge at the guy, before he was immediately held back.
Fox ended up pushing off the person who was attempting to separate him from the fracas, and a screaming match between multiple parties in the area ensued.
Fortunately, it looked like everyone calmed down before things turned physical.
On Thursday, Fox told a gaggle of reporters that the agitator in the situation was “pulled away” by police and charged.
He added that the man “threatened my campaign manager’s life” and “threatened my life.”
“That context is not in that video,” Fox said. “But I will tell you, some people are used to, this time of year, being bullies. And we’re not standing for that. We’re not standing for that.
“And if you’re going to swear and threaten people’s lives and say you’re going to your car to get something, then I’m going to react. I’m going to defend my team, I’m going to defend myself and I’m going to defend anybody that is in the area, quite frankly, because that was a dangerous situation.
“The police got on the scene and they handled that and that gentleman has been charged.”
Fox, a Canada native who was raised in the Bahamas, announced in November he was pursuing a spot in the Bahamas’ House of Assembly.
