Jordyn Tyson was so overcome with emotion after being selected in Thursday’s NFL draft that he openly wept on stage as he greeted commissioner Roger Goodell.
The Saints took the Arizona State wideout with the No. 8 overall pick, and almost immediately following the announcement to the crowd in Pittsburgh, Tyson began crying tears of joy.
The 21-year-old sobbed the entire walk from the green room to the stage, and after he hugged Goodell and posed for pics, the waterworks continued to flow.
Tyson eventually opened up to ESPN’s Laura Rutledge about his emotions, and said he felt just “so thankful” and “so blessed.”
“The lord is doing work on me — He’s not done,” Tyson said. “We’re just going to keep this thing rolling, I’m going to give it my all, and that’s all I can do.”
Tyson was a star at ASU the last two seasons, piling up 1,812 yards and 18 touchdowns on 136 catches. But many wondered how high he’d be taken in the first round after he battled numerous injuries in college.
He shared a message of perseverance when Rutledge asked about the injury history.
“The Lord said it’s going to be hard,” Tyson said. “You have to persevere. Life is not easy. Keep going, boy. You’ve got it. You’re strong. I promise you, you’re so strong. Just keep going. You’ve got it.”
