Grime artist Skepta drove recklessly, court hears

ShareSaveAdd as preferred on GoogleDanny FullbrookBedfordshire, Hertfordshire and BuckinghamshirePA MediaBritish grime artist and producer Skepta was arrested after officers pulled him over for driving recklessly, a court heard.

The 43‑year‑old was taken to a police station after officers said they smelt cannabis in his car and a roadside test returned a positive result for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a substance found in cannabis plants.

He was charged with driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit after the incident on London Road in High Wycombe on 14 May 2024.

He is standing trial at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court under his real name, Joseph Adenuga.

PC Talan O'Neill, the Thames Valley Police officer who stopped the musician, told the court he saw Adenuga overtaking a vehicle on the outside lane while travelling above the 30mph (48km/h) speed limit.

After he pulled over, the officer noticed a "smell of cannabis" in the rapper's Mercedes-Maybach and conducted a roadside test at 10:54 GMT.

Prosecutor Lucy Curran said: "He was arrested when that sample came back with a positive result for the THC component in cannabis."

The court heard the artist, who lives in High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, was compliant throughout the process.
