MLB fan’s wild diving effort for foul ball stuns social media users

An MLB fan is lucky to not have broken a couple bones while diving to secure a foul ball on Tuesday night.

The wild scene all unfolded in the eighth inning of the Rockies vs. Padres game at Coors Field in Denver, when Jackson Merrill was up to bat.

The San Diego outfielder planted a Juan Mejia sweeper deep in foul territory in right field, and as the baseball caromed off a wall, a man in a tan top and dark pants gave it his all to corral it.

The moment stunned the game’s broadcasters, who let out an audible yell as the man hit the deck.

Fortunately, the guy bounced up and returned to his seat without any noticeable wounds.

“That guy really wanted a baseball,” one of the announcers said on the broadcast.

Merrill would go on to strike out, but the Padres ended up winning, 1-0.

A ho-hum result to a late April regular-season game, but certainly one a man and his new keepsake won’t soon forget.
