‘Armed and dangerous’ South Carolina woman captured after officer injured in shooting prompting late night phone alerts

An “armed and dangerous woman” who was wanted after a police officer was injured in a shooting in South Carolina has been captured.

Lacey Cushman, 37, was taken into custody just before midnight after the The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division issued a Blue Alert following a shooting that injured a Springfield Police Officer in rural Barnwell County.

The alert, issued around 10:30 p.m., made cell phones blare across the Palmetto State, according to The State newspaper.

It declared that Cushman was “armed and dangerous” and shared a description of the suspect and her car, a white 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. Police said they believed she was heading east towards Bamberg County after the shooting on Gardenia Road in Blackville.

Details about the officer who was shot or their condition have not been released. No other injuries were reported.

It’s not immediately clear where Cushman was arrested or what charges she is facing.

SLED did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for additional information.

Blue Alerts are a rapid notification system, similar to AMBER Alerts, which are activated when police are seeking a suspect believed to be a serious danger to the public who has injured or killed a law enforcement officer.
