I left the farm, kept the boots — $280 Ariats are worth it even in NYC (see the new style)

Miska Salemann I can confirm these boots are, in fact, made for walking.

And, I say that as someone who spent the first 18 years of my life cleaning chicken coops, shoveling manure and trying to teach retired racehorses how to fly over jumps. There were plenty of “oh you-know-what” moments when these trusty cowboy boots were the only thing keeping me upright, and you-know-what-free.

I bought Ariat’s $280 Cassanova Boots for farm life because they were no-frills, reliable and well-constructed — not for the fashion. But now, as a fully converted Brooklynite, I know they actually translate effortlessly to city life and score style points.

It’s not like vintage Americana style was ever really lost here in the fashion capital (it’s 2016 in 2026, after all), but it’s actually the boots’ practicality factor that’s won me over. Between traversing cracked sidewalks, overflowing trash bins and rushing crowds, my sturdy leather, knee-highs have never once let me down. City life is basically glamorized farm life, after all.

I brought my well-loved pair of Cassanovas from the ranch over to NYC back in 2023, and since then, I’ve added two more pairs to my rotation: a metallic silver style that’s currently 35% off on Amazon, and a classic brown style that goes with everything. They come in a sea of other glitzy colorways, too.

Perfect for work, play and everything in between, they’ve held up beautifully, and somehow manage to get even more comfortable over time.

Today, Ariat has released a limited-edition Fangirl Casanova style, which brings some sparkle to their streamlined, best-selling silhouette. And here I am, thinking of entertaining a fourth pair. They’re the perfect blend of rugged and polished, and arguably a strong contender for festival season.

With my Casanovas, I’ve been able to log 20K steps through summer heat with zero blisters to show for it. The 2.5-inch heel gives just enough lift without sacrificing stability, and the inside zip makes them easy to slip on and off. Somehow, the full-grain leather also feels more breathable than other boots I’ve worn, which is probably why I can wear them all day long.

I also live in Greenpoint — which is a haven for vintage trends — and amazingly, these boots have earned more compliments than anything else in my closet. They’re the one piece I can take with me anywhere and always rely on to keep up.
