He immediately gathered the media in attendance, still in full gear, for a scrum, which the veteran goaltender doesn’t usually do on game days since beginning his NHL career nearly two decades ago.

“I feel like you guys have a good idea what I’m about to say here. Obviously, the past few years, very lucky to be part of this organization and wear this jersey, but tonight will be my last game in the league,” the 40-year-old Quick said with undeniable contentment in his voice.
That’s not to say it wasn’t a hard decision to make. That much was evident in his expression. But he spoke with the sort of peace that comes when it was on his terms.
