Britney Spears checked into rehab by ‘choice,’ is ‘dedicated’ to recovery

Britney Spears’ decision to get help with substance abuse was her own choice, a source tells Page Six.

The singer, 44, voluntarily checked herself into rehab, her rep confirmed to us Sunday.

“This was her own choice,” we were told. “This isn’t about one substance in particular, it has a dual purpose….this is about Britney putting her mental health first and taking some time for herself to focus on the things that are important to her.”

“She’s dedicated to working on her health,” the source added. “This is something she really wants to do for herself. This was her own decision.”

According to our source, Spears’ whole family is supportive of the decision. The pop star has shared pics and video of herself spending time with her two sons — Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19 — after her March 4 arrest for DUI.

“Everyone just wants Britney to be healthy and in a good place and the fact that this was her decision just proves how dedicated she is to her own recovery and getting herself back on solid ground,” the source said.

As for the time frame she may be in rehab, our source tells us, “She doesn’t know yet. This isn’t for a set 30 or 60 day program. It will take as long as she needs. She’s not setting a limit on herself. She just wants to feel better and get herself into a healthier space.”

Spears was in a dancing mood just hours before she checked herself into rehab, posting video of herself gyrating to Cardi B, J Balvin and Bad Bunny’s “I Like It” on Instagram.

She busted some moves in a sheer black bodysuit, knee-high boots and a bright red fedora, appearing unbothered as she risked a wardrobe malfunction and slapped her butt.

On March 4, Spears was taken into custody after authorities saw her swerving in and out of lanes. They also allegedly discovered an unknown substance inside her car during her arrest and she is believed to have been on a cocktail of alcohol and drugs.

She was released the following morning, per arrest records from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Spears was “crying and very tearful” while being booked for her DUI arrest, a source told Page Six at the time.

Spears “felt ashamed and embarrassed” and was “very sorry” for what happened, our source said.

“She doesn’t want to let anyone down, including her fans,” the insider added. “The last thing she wants is to be judged publicly all over again.”
