Rory McIlroy holds off Scottie Scheffler to become first repeat Masters champ since Tiger Woods in 2002

Rory McIlroy made a different kind of history with this year’s Masters win.

Last year, the Northern Irishman completed the career grand slam. This year held off a late charge from Scottie Scheffler and staved off disaster at 18 to become the first repeat Masters champions since Tiger Woods in 2002 with a one stroke victory, 12 under at Augusta on Sunday.

McIlroy, who came into Sunday tied with Cam Young atop the leaderboard, shot ?-under on Sunday, holding off 4-under day from Scheffler and a 6-under Sunday from Tyrrell Hatton to ensure victory
