It’s been a rough few days at Augusta for Sergio Garcia, and it all boiled over on Sunday.
After hitting his tee shot on the second hole during the final round of the 2026 Masters, the 2017 green jacket winner smashed his driver into the ground, damaging the teeing area, and then whacked a nearby green cooler, which left the head of the driver hanging by a thread before he ripped it off.
The 46-year-old was issued a code-of-conduct warning by chairman of the competitions committee Geoff Yang at the fourth tee.
Garcia tried to make light of his behavior and poor play by carrying Jon Rahm’s clubs briefly.
The two Spanish Masters winners and LIV Golf stars were paired together on Sunday.
Since his Masters win nine years ago, Garcia hasn’t had a top-10 finish in any major, and he had missed the cut in six of his previous seven appearances at Augusta.
The Masters is the first tournament to use a code-of-conduct policy that has been developed by the PGA Tour, according to the Associated Press. The other majors are reportedly likely to adopt the policy, too.

Garcia had to play the rest of his round without a driver. He was 3-over for the round and 8-over overall through 16 holes on Sunday and was set to finish in the bottom three.
