Robert MacIntyre reveals pre-tournament neck injury after disastrous Masters effort

Robert MacIntyre has an explanation for his horrible Masters week.

The Scottish golfer told journalist Martin Dempster that he had been dealing with a neck injury before the tournament, and nearly pulled out before giving it a go at Augusta National.

He suffered the injury while working out in the gym, per Dempster.

The news comes after MacIntyre endured a miserable two days at the Masters on Thursday and Friday before missing the cut and going home early.

AP On Thursday, MacIntyre shot an eight-over par 80, which was tied for the seventh-worst showing of the first round of the tournament.

He had his lowest of lows on the on the par-5 15th hole, when he turned in a quadruple bogey after hitting the ball in the water twice.

In the middle of that disastrous 15th hole, MacIntyre flipped off the TV camera and was later reprimanded by the Masters officials. He was reminded of the code of conduct.

During the second round, with the cut all but out of the picture, MacIntyre shot one-under 71, falling short of the cutline by four strokes.

He later made light of the incident on social media, posting an AI-generated image of one of the iconic Masters gnomes wearing the same outfit MacIntyre wore while flipping its middle finger to his Instagram story on Friday.

MacIntyre had finished fourth at The Players Championship and tied for second at the Valero Open coming into the weekend, making the lefty swinger a popular pick to be in the mix on Sunday.

The No. 8 golfer in the world, MacIntyre came into the weekend seeking the first major championship win of his career.
