Pete Alonso isn’t happy with the start of his tenure in Baltimore.
After another quiet night at the plate, Alonso made clear he expects far better from himself.
“This is not my standard,” Alonso said after going 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in Baltimore’s 6-4 loss to the Giants at Camden Yards on Friday, per MLB.com.

I just haven’t. But I will.”
The former Mets slugger has been very un-Alonso-like through the first couple weeks of the season.
In 57 plate appearances heading into Saturday’s game against the Giants, Alonso is hitting .176/.263/.275 with just one home run and two doubles.
“I’m here to win. And I expect more out of myself, and I know other people do as well,” Alonso said. “The best is obviously going to come. … And I will be better.”
Alonso has been one of the most consistent home run hitters in baseball since making his debut with the Mets in 2019.
The five-time All-Star has hit at least 34 long balls in each full season since that year.

Over the winter, Alonso ended his seven-year run with the Mets and signed a five-year, $155 million deal to head to Baltimore.
As a team, the Orioles, who disappointed in 2025, going 75-87 after back-to-back playoff appearances, are off to a so-so start, sitting at 6-7 after Friday’s loss.
