Jon Heyman TJ Rumfield’s start giving Rockies edge in trade with Yankees By Jon Heyman Published April 9, 2026, 7:28 p.m. ET Rockies designated hitter TJ Rumfield (7) hits a single against the Toronto Blue Jays. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect The Rockies aren’t exactly known as MLB’s best-run franchise. But they seem to be getting the better of their deals with the Yankees.
The trade where the Yankees sent 1B TJ Rumfield to Colorado for right-hander Angel Chivilli isn’t looking great, as Rumfield is starring early.
Word is, Yankees analytics people didn’t love Rumfield, a former 12th-rounder of the Phillies. After winning a Rockies job with a .913 OPS in spring, Rumfield has a 1.037 OPS. (Chivilli started with four shutout innings at Triple-A.)
Previous deals with the woeful Rockies for Jake Bird and even Ryan McMahon aren’t looking like big hits yet, either.
