Massive tree comes crashing down on minivan along busy SoCal roadway

Make California Post a Preferred Source High winds toppled a massive tree that crashed on top of a minivan in Santa Clarita Friday, with the driver miraculously surviving the terrifying ordeal.

The eucalyptus tree fell while driver was inside the vehicle on McBean Parkway, north of Magic Mountain Parkway, at around 12:40 p.m., authorities and witnesses said.

The female driver was traveling northbound when the incident occurred. While she survived, she was reported to have been injured and taken to a hospital.

“We heard it too, it was like a loud crack… So it falls and from 100 to 150 feet away, the concrete rumbled. We felt it,” one witness told a journalist at the scene.

“Everybody around starts scattering and we here it and we feel it and this lady was inside with her car. Thankfully she wasn’t on the right lane because if she was on the right lane, she would’ve been toast,” the witness added.

Los Angeles County Fire Department and Santa Clarita officials were called to the scene while the northbound side of McBean Parkway was closed, according to The Signal.

Crews with chainsaws worked to chop up the tree and remove it from the roadway.

The tree had temporarily blocked all lanes of the road.

The incident occurred as winds of up to 70 mph were set to hit the region on Friday.
