Police said on Thursday that an accident involving two cars and a taxi occurred on the highway towards Sheung Shui at 9.51pm the previous day.

Eight people suffered minor injuries and were sent to North District Hospital in Sheung Shui.

In another accident on the same highway, a five-vehicle collision killed a 49-year-old public light bus driver and injured eight others.

Police said the driver, a mainland Chinese man, was travelling towards Sheung Shui at around 11.30pm when he allegedly failed to brake in time and crashed into the back of a medium goods vehicle that had stopped because of traffic ahead.

The medium goods vehicle was pushed forward and crashed into the rear of a car, which in turn hit a light goods vehicle in front. The bus then collided with another medium goods vehicle.
