Massive car-killer pothole forces lane closures and triggers major concerns for highway integrity as crews set to descend

Drivers are being urged to allow extra travel time or seek alternate routes. A giant pothole is wreaking havoc on the 14 Freeway in the Antelope Valley, forcing major lane closures and snarling traffic for miles.

Caltrans crews are set to address the site in the southbound lanes just south of Palmdale Boulevard, where they’ll work to repair the hole, which officials say is large enough to damage vehicles.

The disruption adds to ongoing construction in the area. Scheduled nightly closures between 20th Street West and Avenue H (northbound) and Avenue F to Avenue H (southbound) will continue through Friday, April 10, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
