The story of Apple over the past year now includes a foldable iPhone launch, a new CEO on stage, and fresh legal fire directed at a high profile AI rival. Holding Apple over the past year would have returned 36.6%, including dividends. If you had been deciding back on 16 October 2025, what would you have needed to believe about AI, pricing power, and hardware reinvention before any of that news hit the tape?

The move put Apple in the middle of this trade. Scan 55 AI infrastructure stocks for other companies exposed to it.

Apple shares cost US$247 at the start of the period, and the live debate was whether that price reflected a privacy-first AI leader in waiting or a mature hardware giant leaning on efficiency.

The bullish story pointed to a Fair Value of US$300, a notional target implied by expectations that AI-led ecosystem integration and services would re-accelerate hardware replacement cycles while supporting high margins.

The cautious narrative anchored on a Fair Value of US$166, assuming revenue growth of 5.5% and profit margins at 29.0%, with manufacturing complexity and reliance on emerging markets flagged as key risks.

Apple's launch of the US$1,999 iPhone Duo and AI heavy iPhone 18 Pro, alongside higher product prices as memory costs surged, leaned toward the view that users would accept premium pricing tied to new hardware and AI features. Higher Q3 2026 revenue, profit, and net margin supported that case, although iPhone 18 Pro order cuts reminded investors that demand is still sensitive to price and product mix.

The lesson is clear. When a story hinges on pricing power and ecosystem pull, you test it against reported margins and unit adjustments, not headlines. For any hardware and AI platform you look at next, track whether margin moves and order patterns actually back the claim that customers will tolerate higher prices for integrated features.

Apple now trades at US$343, and this Narrative's Fair Value sits below that level, reflecting a view that the market leans hard on services to justify today's tag.

The bet is that Apple turns its installed base into a software and AI engine. The Narrative keeps asking whether weaker product differentiation and a later AI push limit that outcome.

"This narrative is primarily based on Ben Thompson's (Stratechery) view that Apple has transitioned from being a product-driven company to a services-oriented one. While the iPhone remains central to Apple's business, hardware differentiation has plateaued."

The story behind this run has already been told. The next one could be taking shape somewhere else. Where could you start looking before it becomes the headline?

Company 1 - 33% below our estimate - sells modular server and storage hardware to support expanding AI data workloads.

Company 2 - 41% below our estimate - ramps a software-centric payments and deposits platform that underpins lending and fee services.

Company 3 - 49% below our estimate - integrates additional gold and silver properties to extend operating life and stabilize output.

That is three of the list. See all 33 potentially undervalued companies →
