Centre for Food Safety took action after receiving a notification about suspected gastroenteritis cases in the Netherlands linked to the oysters
1-MIN READ1-MINDanny MokPublished: 8:33am, 9 Apr 2026Hong Kong food safety authorities have ordered an immediate halt to the sale of oysters from a French brand after the product was possibly linked to suspected gastroenteritis cases in the Netherlands.
The Centre for Food Safety on Wednesday ordered the trade to suspend imports of raw oysters from the French brand Josephine that were produced and packed between March 5 and 25.
Traders were instructed to stop using or selling any affected batches still in stock.
A spokesman said the authority had received a notification from the European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed about suspected gastroenteritis cases in the Netherlands that might be linked to the consumption of the oysters.
“As a precaution, the centre has immediately instructed the trade to temporarily suspend the import and sale within Hong Kong of the raw oysters concerned,” the spokesman said.
The brand has voluntarily removed the affected oysters from shelves.
