Groom, 22, accused of fatally shooting friend who showed up at Oklahoma bachelor party

A groom allegedly gunned down a friend during his bachelor party when he spotted a shadowy figure banging on the front door of their Oklahoma rental cabin, according to authorities and reports.

Nolan Engel, 22, was arrested after deputies arrived at an Airbnb cabin in Broken Bow and discovered Braden Uhlman, 21, with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Nolan Engel, 22, was arrested during his bachelor party and charged with murder. Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Officers with the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office called in the OSBI to help investigate the “suspicious death.”

When agents arrived at the cabin and spoke with Engel, he allegedly made “spontaneous statements to arriving officers regarding himself as the shooter,” according to court documents obtained by KXII.

The gun-wielding groom told investigators he had been on his bachelor party trip with three other friends when he heard knocking noises and saw a shadowy figure outside the cabin, court documents said.

Engel allegedly grabbed his 9mm handgun and fired a shot out of the cabin, before discovering Uhlmann lying on the porch with a bullet to the chest, the outlet reported.

Uhlmann was taken to a local hospital, but later died, investigators said.

Braden Uhlmann, 21, was allegedly gunned down by his friend. Facebook It is unclear whether Uhlmann was part of the planned bachelor party trip or if he was arriving to surprise the four men.

“Based on the information and evidence obtained, it was determined that Engel shot Uhlmann,” the OSBI wrote in a statement.

Uhlmann, who was born in Minnesota, was remembered in an obituary as a “lifelong athlete” whose “love for football began early” and carried him through a successful athletic career at Kilgore College in Texas.

He later attended Stephen F. Austin State University, where he was set to graduate with a degree in accounting in December, according to the obituary.

“Brady was a respectful man, he always opened car doors for ladies, held a door for anyone, and addressed people politely with a ‘yes ma’am or yes sir,” the obituary said.

“Brady’s love extended far beyond his biological family; he was a son to many. To the families in Minnesota and Texas who claimed him as one of your own, THANK YOU for loving him as we did.”

Engel, meanwhile, was charged with second-degree murder and was released from the McCurtain County Jail after posting his $250,000 bond.
