American Jordan Stolz fails to medal in crushing finish to end speed skating star’s Olympics

Winter Olympics 2026 Olympics American Jordan Stolz fails to medal in crushing finish to end speed skating star’s Olympics By Madeline Kenney Published Feb. 21, 2026, 11:20 a.m. ET American speed skater Jordan Stolz failed to medal in his final event at the 2026 Milano Cortina Games.

The men’s mass start ultimately became a nail-biting race for bronze after the Netherlands’ Jorrit Bergsma and Denmark’s Viktor Hald Thorup pulled ahead early.

Stolz, 21, looked positioned to win bronze down the final stretch, but Italy’s Andrea Giovannini just barely edged him out for the final podium spot.

Stolz won the 500-meter and 1,000-meter events, setting Olympic records in both.

He earned the silver medal in the 1,500-meter event Friday.

Bergsma, 40, won the men’s mass start, earning his first Olympic gold medal since 2014.
