Shares of Micron Technology (MU) returned 398.4% in the year to October 15, 2026. The S&P 500 returned 17.9% over the same period. Investors holding the stock after that run want to know if the easy money is gone. Those watching from the sidelines wonder if they are too late. So what could three more years of owning Micron still make you?
Micron Could Return About A Fifth In Three Years
A Trefis scenario built from the company's own figures projects that three years of owning Micron stock would return about 21.2%, or 6.6% a year, excluding dividends. This model grows Micron's revenue at a fixed pace for three years and sets a net margin and a P/E at the end:
Higher sales account for all of that projected gain. The scenario sets both the net margin and the P/E below today's levels. Taken alone, either metric would result in a lower share price. The lower P/E is a Trefis assumption. The model sets the multiple at three quarters of today's level, serving as a floor when assumed growth sits far below Micron's recent pace.
In fiscal 2025, the latest year with figures by business unit, the company's fastest-growing division was its Cloud Memory Business Unit. Revenue for the segment more than tripled to $13.5 billion, making it the company's largest unit that year.

Can Micron Keep Selling More Memory At High Prices?
Management expects to do so for now. Executives noted on the fiscal Q4 2026 earnings call, held September 30, 2026, that more than 75% of Micron's shipments for fiscal 2027 are already committed. They added that market conditions should stay tight through 2028. About three quarters of the revenue under customer agreements carries a set pricing framework. Management stated those negotiations have been moving toward higher prices.
Executives said they have no line of sight to when supply and demand will balance. They identified clean room space as the industry's main limit on supply. Micron expects first wafer output from its Idaho facility in mid-calendar 2027. The company's revenue guidance of $60 billion to $63 billion for fiscal Q1 2027 exceeds the figure Micron reported for fiscal Q4 2026. However, that outlook covers a single quarter rather than a three-year window.
What Happens To Micron's Upside In Other Scenarios?
The table below alters one assumption per row while keeping the rest of the scenario intact:
Micron's upside turns negative in only one scenario. That occurs if the net margin returns to its average over the twelve-month periods ending fiscal Q4 2023 to fiscal Q3 2026. Four of those periods show a loss. In the twelve months to fiscal Q4 2023, Micron's net loss equaled 37.5% of revenue. The projection holds the share count at today's level. Micron's diluted share count rose 4.6% from fiscal Q4 2023 to fiscal Q4 2026. Each share would capture less value if the count keeps rising.
Micron's revenue grew 256.3% in the twelve months to fiscal Q4 2026. That compares with a 48.9% growth rate in the twelve months to fiscal Q4 2025. The model already assumes growth will slow to 30.0% a year. If annual growth drops to 21.9%, three years of holding the stock would return nothing under the scenario's current margin and P/E assumptions. A decline in the net margin from 63.8% over the latest twelve months to 38.7% would yield the same flat return. A drop in the P/E from 12.4 today to 7.7 would also eliminate any gains.
Investors should watch Micron's net margin when the company reports fiscal Q1 2027 results, expected on or around December 15, 2026.
