Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) shares climbed about 5% in Friday trading after the electric vehicle maker presented a redesigned Roadster prototype featuring unusual performance capabilities, including brief aerial movements powered by compressed gas thrusters.

The demonstration in McGregor, Texas, featured a vehicle that flipped through the air, recovered its position using onboard thrusters and cleared parked vehicles. Tesla also showed the car moving along an inverted ramp using a suction-based system designed to generate additional grip.

Tesla is targeting 2028 for production of the next-generation Roadster, although the company did not provide a final retail price. The vehicle's proposed flight-related capabilities also face unresolved questions about regulatory approval for public-road use.

Tesla cited acceleration from zero to 60 mph in as little as 0.59 seconds to 0.81 seconds, depending on the configuration. The company also listed a top speed above 230 mph and driving range exceeding 300 miles.

Three versions are planned, with reservation deposits ranging from $50,000 for the Performance model to $250,000 for the Thrust edition. A single-seat Rocket version, featuring a broader thruster system, is available by invitation and is not approved for public-road use.
