Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey reportedly had an extremely awkward run-in while they both traveled first class to Hawaii.
The exes were unexpectedly on the same flight from Los Angeles to Kauai, Hawaii, on March 29 and went out of their way to avoid one another, TMZ reported.
Lachey reportedly went “bright red” upon noticing his ex-wife, and she switched seats with a person from her group to be farther away from him, according to the outlet.
Making the situation even more awkward, Simpson’s estranged husband, Eric Johnson, was also reportedly on the flight — though he sat in coach as opposed to first class — as was Lachey’s wife, Vanessa Lachey.
But while TMZ reported that Nick and Simpson had zero interaction, according to Us Weekly, they greeted each other briefly.
“They actually did say hello, and it was a nice, cordial conversation,” a source told the outlet.
Page Six reached out to reps for Simpson and Nick, but didn’t immediately receive a response.

Simpson, 45, and Nick, 52, were married from October 2022 to June 2006. They famously starred in the MTV reality series, “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,” which ran for three seasons from 2003-2005.
Both eventually remarried following their divorce.
Nick married Vanessa in July 2011, and they share three children together: Camden, 13, Brooklyn, 11, and Phoenix, 9.
As for Simpson, she tied the knot to Johnson in July 2014. They share three kids together: Maxwell, 13, Ace, 12, and Birdie, 7.
She and Johnson separated in January 2025 after 10 years of marriage.
Nick made a rare comment about his failed marriage to the “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer on season 3 of Netflix’s “The Ultimatum” back in 2024 — specifically, how it emotionally damaged him.
While talking to a contestant about their fear of marriage, he said, “I, too, was previously married, divorced, so I understand the hurt, the scars that exist from that.”
But he told the contestant to not “let your past define your future.”
“What I truly always wanted in my life, which was to have a beautiful marriage and a beautiful family, if I hadn’t retained my belief in that, I wouldn’t have ever realized the beautiful life I have with this woman,” he said, referring to Vanessa.
