Hong Kong doctor axed for posting resuscitation photo faces Medical Council case

Kowloon West Cluster says it terminated doctor’s contract and ‘passed relevant case to Medical Council for follow-up’

1-MIN READ1-MIN ListenEdith LinPublished: 10:44pm, 7 Apr 2026Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority has found a doctor breached its code of conduct after he posted a photo of a resuscitation procedure in a public hospital, with the case being passed to the Medical Council.

The authority’s Kowloon West Cluster announced on Tuesday that it had terminated the doctor’s contract, one day after stating the man was “no longer an employee”.

“The Kowloon West Cluster has completed its investigation into the incident. We confirm that the staff member breached the code of conduct and lacked integrity, with such behaviours seriously damaging the professional image of doctors,” it said.

“The cluster has terminated its contract with the staff involved. It has passed the relevant case to the Medical Council for follow-up in accordance with its mechanism.”

The council is responsible for the registration and disciplinary regulation of medical practitioners in the city.

The authority stressed that all staff must adhere to professional codes of conduct, maintain integrity and uphold the principle of protecting patients’ rights and privacy.
