Probationary driver, 70, charged over going wrong way on Hong Kong highway

Police say officers noticed footage showing car with probationary sign driving wrong way down hard shoulder of Tolo Highway

Police said on Tuesday that officers noticed online footage showing a private car with a probationary sign driving the wrong way down a hard shoulder of Tolo Highway.

In the clip, the black Mercedes then makes a U-turn before veering into the offside lane.

The New Territories North traffic investigation unit followed up on the case, with officers charging the man with dangerous driving by summons on Tuesday.

Police urged drivers to pay close attention to road signs and plan routes carefully to avoid accidents.

In Hong Kong, dangerous driving is punishable by a maximum fine of HK$25,000 (US$3,200) and three years’ imprisonment.
