“Saturday Night Live UK” has been slammed for a distasteful joke aimed at Meta owner and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
“It’s been revealed that Meta billionaire Mark Zuckerberg is building a bunker under his compound in California,” said “Weekend Update” co-host Ania Magliano.
“And I hope he uses that bunker in exactly the same way Hitler did,” she added, prompting shocked reactions from the live audience.
The joke referenced the Führerbunker, an underground air-raid shelter near the Reich Chancellery in Berlin, where Adolf Hitler spent his final 105 days, ultimately committing suicide on April 30, 1945.
“Saturday Night Live UK” segment “Weekend Update” sparks fury with Hitler gag about Jewish Mark Zuckerberg. Viewers were furious at the gag, with one posting: “So they want him to commit suicide? That line about the bunker… yikes, but comedy’s supposed to push boundaries.”
Another wrote: “How is that comedy?” And one more added: “The female anchor seems to think that coyly chuckling at every joke will convince people it’s funny.”
The joke came amid reports that Zuckerberg, who is Jewish, has created a bunker of his own.
Hidden beneath the manicured exterior of his $110 million Palo Alto compound, Zuckerberg has reportedly completed a massive 7,000-square-foot subterranean sanctuary that neighbors have dubbed the “Bat Cave.”
While the project required years of disruptive construction and legal maneuvering to ensure privacy, its interior reveals a peculiar, cinematic inspiration: The forest moon of Endor.
The Meta CEO, a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast, has outfitted the “Armageddon-proof” space with a forest of synthetic giant sequoias, meticulously crafted to replicate the Ewok tree village from “Return of the Jedi.”
The joke about Zuckerberg referenced the bunker he’s supposed to be building in California, in reference to Hitler. Getty Images Zuckerberg is not the only billionaire to have a doomsday-style bunker. Over half of Silicon Valley’s tech billionaires are estimated to have “apocalypse insurance” or doomsday bunkers.
These projects, often located in remote areas like New Zealand or Hawaii, feature luxury, self-sustaining amenities — hydroponics, security teams and more — designed to withstand nuclear, AI or climate catastrophes. Notable owners include Bill Gates, Sam Altman and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman.
Since its debut, the UK “SNL” show — modeled after the US original — saw over 200,000 views but has lost thousands of viewers. It aired on Sky One on March 21, 2026.
The cast includes Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young.
