Woman struck and killed by ambulance in Brooklyn identified

A Brooklyn nurse was publicly identified Saturday as the victim struck and killed by an ambulance in Midwood, police said.

The ambulance, operated by Maimonides Medical Center, was making a left turn from Avenue O onto Ocean Avenue when it hit Cherry Cayetano Sobel, 44, on Thursday, cops said.

Detectives don’t believe the driver realized they hit someone.

The hospital suspended the ambulance crew pending the outcome of an investigation, according to a statement from officials.

“The Maimonides family is devastated by this tragic loss,” the statement reads.

“Our EMT staff who were involved in the incident have been suspended pending the outcome of the NYPD’s investigation. Our heart goes out to the victim’s family and friends.”

A post on her Facebook page appears to show her with her husband and two children. Facebook / Cherry Cayetano Sobel There were no immediate criminal charges.

“Life has a funny way of working out, just when you thought it never will…,” her Facebook profile reads.

In one 2023 post on the site, she featured a photo of an idenfication card with her name on it for The Phoenix Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
