SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) shares fell 2% to $153.5 Wednesday morning, putting fresh focus on whether its fast-growing businesses can support the valuation investors are paying for the rocket and satellite company.

Its next phase depends on more than launches. Starlink, the satellite-broadband service, is currently the only profitable division, while the AI operation built around Grok is expanding quickly but remains unprofitable. SpaceX's AI business grew 213% in the second quarter.

Analysts expect 2027 revenue to reach $115 billion, an increase of 155%. At the current share price, that estimate would value the company at roughly 18 times projected sales, a multiple comparable to Nvidia's. Such a valuation leaves limited room for disappointment if expansion slows.

The larger uncertainty is whether SpaceX can turn plans for orbital data centers into a viable business before AI rivals gain ground or Starlink's customer growth cools. A $1,000 investment could become $2,000 by 2030 if the shares double, but that remains a possible outcome rather than a guaranteed return. The company's short public-market history adds uncertainty to any long-term estimate.
