Sunrun (NASDAQ:RUN) said home batteries it operates with Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) discharged a record 745 megawatts to California's grid on October 6. That exceeded the 669 megawatts set the day before. The California Energy Commission and utilities called the dispatches during evening peaks of a heat wave, when day-ahead power prices topped $200 per megawatt-hour. Sunrun shares fell 1.67% in premarket.

The previous high was 580 megawatts on September 9, which broke a 539-megawatt mark from July 2025. Sunrun has more than 120,000 residential batteries enrolled to support California's grid. With Tesla and Everyday Electric, it also plans to enroll nearly 21,000 devices in a Google-funded distributed power plant with PG&E, expected to start dispatching this month.

Sunrun expects its distributed power plant operations to generate about $40 million in GAAP revenue and more than $10 million in operating margin in 2026. In August it cut its 2026 cash generation guidance to $200 million to $375 million, from $250 million to $450 million. Sunrun reports third quarter earnings on November 4.
