The S&P 500 is about to break its longest streak without a 1% drop Brian Sozzi · Executive Editor Wed, October 14, 2026 at 9:17 AM EDT 2 min read ^GSPC -0.02% The stock market keeps on stacking good days only.

The S&P 500 (^GSPC) has gone an astonishing 52 trading days without a 1% down day, matching the streak that ended in July 2024, according to research from Global Markets Investor. If the index avoids such a decline in today's session, the streak will become the longest since January 2020, when it lasted 74 trading days.

We say astonishing given the headwinds continuing to be thrown at the market, from elevated inflation to a September interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve to midterm election uncertainty.

No big deal, apparently, as the Teflon market vibes rage on.

S&P 500 third quarter earnings growth is expected to come in at 29.6% year over year.

If 29.6% is the actual growth rate for the quarter, it will mark the third straight quarter of growth above 25%, according to FactSet.

It would also represent the eighth straight quarter of double-digit percentage earnings growth.

For the fourth quarter, Wall Street analysts are calling for earnings growth of 28%.

Analysts are predicting year-over-year earnings growth of 32.7% for 2026. Earnings are seen up 15.6% for 2027.
