Second American fighter jet crashes in Persian Gulf area around same time F-15E shot down, pilot safely rescued

A second US fighter plane crashed in the Persian Gulf area Friday — and the lone pilot was safely rescued, according to US officials.

The A-10 Warthog attack plane fell to the ground near the Strait of Hormuz at roughly the same time an Air Force F-15E was shot down over Iran, two US officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told the New York Times.

The F-15E was shot down over Iran and one pilot was rescued.

A search-and-rescue mission for the second crew member was unfolding Friday.

NBC News, meanwhile, reported that two military helicopters were shot by Iranians while involved in the mission but all members are safe.
