Doris Innes was attacked outside her home in Plumstead, south-east London, on Wednesday, the Metropolitan Police said.
Two other people were threatened with a knife, but were not injured.
Giorgio Pin, 62, was arrested shortly after police were called and has been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Police were alerted to reports of a man with a knife at about 09:00 BST on Wednesday and he was arrested about 20 minutes later.
Innes was found injured outside her Red Lion Place home and taken by paramedics to hospital, where she died.
Pin, of nearby Brookhill Road, is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
