Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, speaks during the 2026 Infrastructure Summit in Washington, D.C. REUTERS Fresh off its decision to shutter its video app Sora — and 86 a $1 billion investment partnership from Disney — Sam Altman rebounded by… getting in the media business. (Take it from us Sam, it’s not for the faint of heart!)
In a deal that surprised pretty much everyone yesterday, OpenAI announced it had bought TBPN, an up-and-coming daily streaming talk show about the tech business. Co-hosted by Jordi Hays and John Coogan, TBPN (Technology Business Programming Network) has become an obsession among Silicon Valley heavyweights, like Mark Zuckerberg, Marc Andreesen and even Altman himself.
Sam Altman sat down with journalist Laurie Segall to tape the latest episode of her podcast “Mostly Human.” Mostly Human with Laurie Segall The show, which has been described by the New York Times as “SportsCenter meets LinkedIn,” streams daily on X and YouTube, as well as Spotify. In January, TBPN signed with CAA. (But we’re told that CAA did not broker this specific deal, as the two sides already had a pre-existing relationship, and hashed it out among themselves).
As for Disney, Altman told tech journalist Laurie Segall that he still wants to find a way to work with the studio. “I love Sora, I love generating videos, and I love our partnership with Disney, and we’re working hard with them to find a world where they can still do something amazing, and we can help with that.”
