A guide to Good Friday, Easter Sunday 2026 store closings this weekend

Friday, April 3, is Good Friday, and Sunday, April 5, is Easter Sunday. Serenkonata - stock.adobe.com With Good Friday and Easter Sunday happening this weekend, many are wondering what will and won’t be open during the holidays.

April 3 is Good Friday, followed by Easter Sunday on April 5.

For those celebrating, the weekend will be full of going to church, family dinners and Easter baskets with chocolate.

But even with everything going on, sometimes people need to stop by a store at the last minute.

Or maybe plans have changed and they need to get food elsewhere.

Whatever the case, here’s a guide to what’s open and closed this Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Because Good Friday is not a bank holiday, most government agencies will remain open.

Bank branches will remain open, as will courts and government offices and the Department of Motor Vehicles. The U.S. Postal Service will be open, and there will be mail delivery.

Garbage, recycling and organics collections will operate on a normal schedule, and so will MTA buses and trains.

However, Good Friday is a U.S. Stock Market Holiday, meaning the U.S. Stock Market, including the Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchange, will be closed.

A majority of stores, retailers and fast-food spots will be open and operating on normal hours on Good Friday. Be sure to check your local stores before visiting to double check if there are modified hours.

Unlike Good Friday, many retailers, drug stores and grocery stores will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Many food spots operate on modified hours for Easter Sunday.
