Much like the daily news cycle in America, The Boys left viewers in 2024 with a sense of lost hope. The Season 4 finale ended with the Boys getting captured, while Homelander managed to once again amass even more control over the country, this time practically landing himself a seat in the White House. And, as if watching America tip further into dystopia was already difficult enough on the hit Prime Video series, Karl Urban and the cast of The Boys warned DECIDER viewers should “buckle up” for an even wilder Season 5.
Urban put it quite bluntly when asked what fans should expect in the fifth and final season of the series: “Blood, other bodily fluids, tears.”
“I would get some tissue boxes ready in certain junctures for sure,” he said, though he didn’t specify what the tissues would be for exactly. “Buckle up. It’s going to be a fun ride.”
Season 4 ended with Billy Butcher (Urban) murdering Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) with his new super abilities just after Hughie (Jack Quaid) successfully convinced her to join the Boys in their fight against Homelander (Antony Starr). Watching Neuman literally get ripped apart may have come as a shock to viewers who, like this writer, felt relieved to see this character cross back over to the good side. But Quaid and Erin Moriarty teased there will be many more major character deaths to come in this bloody final season.
“It’s the final season for a reason,” Quaid recently told DECIDER. “There are quite a few characters who meet their end.”
He continued, “The most shocking thing that I would read on the pages wasn’t so much the big, gory, explosive moments. It was more so the character deaths. It’s a thing. It’s very weighted in that way, which I think is really, really cool.”
Moriarty also had a dire warning to share ahead of the Season 5 premiere.
“No one is safe,” she stated. “So, I’ll just say in order to mentally prepare yourself to watch the show in the final season, do not get to get too attached to any character. If you are emotionally attached or invested in any character, mentally prepare yourself, because no one is safe at any given moment.”
Sounds just like The Boys viewers know and love. But Laz Alonso, who plays the refreshingly pragmatic Mother’s Milk, teased that there is still much to look forward to this season. The actor revealed the Boys will finally get that “final showdown” they “always wanted to have” with the Supes.
“The fans are going to get that clash of the titans type of, you know, mano-a-mano battle the war of all wars. That’s what I’m really excited for,” he said, adding, “We’ve been wanting that, too.”
Things are bleak going into the fifth and final season of The Boys, according to the season summary: “It’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a ‘Freedom Camp.’ Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.”
