Microsoft, the cloud and software group (NASDAQ:MSFT), rose about 1.0% to $546.74 at 11.10am EST on October 13 as investors weighed its plans for Maia 300. The custom AI chip is set to become the main inference system for Microsoft's products and services, with deployments beginning in 2027. The prize is clear: handle more AI requests without letting the cost of serving them swallow the upside.

Microsoft's October 12 announcement projects up to seven times Maia 200's token throughput at rack scale and 40% more tokens per megawatt. Those are company expectations, not proven operating results. More throughput means greater processing capacity. Better power efficiency means more output from the electricity available. Neither figure tells investors exactly how much Microsoft will save per responseor how much of those savings will reach earnings.
The valuation picture shows shares trading 7.72% below the $592.48 GF Value estimate, suggesting a modest cushion rather than a wide margin of safety. Maia 300 could strengthen Microsoft's control over its AI costs, but designing the chip is only one step. Manufacturing, software integration and sustained utilization still have to deliver. The real test arrives when production workloads show whether the promised performance translates into cheaper AI services and stronger margins.
