The third season kicked off with Peter tracking down Treasury Agent Jay Batra (Suraj Sharma) who fled to Istanbul with crucial government intel after allegedly killing his boss, but as Peter soon learns, Jay didn’t kill his boss. He was simply trying to flag suspicious financial activity linked to a terror attack. After Peter promises him protection back in the states, they teamed up with Financial Register reporter Isabel De Leon (Genesis Rodriguez) to investigate the crimes and financial fraud and take down Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum), President Hagan (Ward Horton), FLOTUS Jenny Hagan (Jennifer Morrison), and anyone else involved.
Along the way, Peter reunited with old friends like Agent Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola), and met fresh faces like his POTUS-appointed partner, Adam (David Lyons), who turned against the team because of Hagan’s orders. When Season 3’s intense penultimate episode ended, Adam was about to kill Chelsea and President Hagan was basking in heroism for taking down Zapata, until Peter called out his crimes and said “With all due respect, sir, fuck you!” Iconic.

The Night Agent Season 3, Episode 10 is called “Razzmatazz,” and when you finally learn why you’ll need a tissue. (Don’t say we didn’t warn you!)
Before the action-packed finale picks up where Episode 9 left off, the cold open flashes back to Peter’s childhood and shows him and his mom at the beach, flying a kite, running through the ocean, building sand castles, and eating a delicious looking ice cream bar. It’s a moment of calm before we check in with him present day, as he’s speeding to Chelsea’s location frantically calling the Night Agent line. When he gives his code and reports an agent is in trouble, he’s informed his code isn’t valid and is asked not to call the number again. POTUS already cut his access.
Unsure if Peter will reach her in time, Chelsea puts on an act for Adam, who’s telling her a funny story to ward off any suspicion. The only problem? She laughs a little too long for his liking, and he realizes she knows. He pulls a gun on her as he drives and makes her drop her own weapon. She tells him he doesn’t have to go through with the orders, and he squashes any hope of her changing his mind, admitting the irony of her saving his life minutes earlier isn’t lost on him and he doesn’t want to kill her. With his unshakable loyalty to POTUS confirmed, Chelsea takes drastic measures to escape, grabs the wheel, and drives the SUV off the road. After the car flips, both Chelsea and Adam are unconscious, but she wakes up and escapes just as he’s about to shoot her and runs into a nearby barn.
Peter arrives just in time, and he and Adam have a showdown. As bullets fly, Peter attempts to get through to Adam by telling him POTUS and FLOTUS are using him and have been making illegal deals with Monroe for years. He says Isabel got Monroe’s hard drive open and they even have proof, but Adam calls bullshit. As Peter and Chelsea lose him, Isabel and Jay break down their findings to Isabel’s fellow reporters and boss.
For anyone looking for a simple breakdown of this season’s investigation, The Night Agent lays it all out in the finale: “Raúl Zapata and the LFS had an account to finance all their terrorist stuff. And separately, we have Isabel’s father, Jacob Monroe, a terrorist adjacent intelligence broker who’s also in bed with FLOTUS. He funneled money through her charity, Signature Initiative, and illegally back into the Hagan campaign as leverage or blackmail in exchange for classified intel.” They all used Walcott Capitol bank to launder money, and that bank is responsible for hiring The Father, who killed Senator Lansing, Vernon Tyvek, and Isabel’s mentor Mike to cover up their involvement.
Though everything’s on the drive and Isabel stresses the urgency of breaking the story before the White House shuts it down, Isabel’s boss is wary to make moves unless the banker, Freya (Michaela Watkins) agrees to a live interview. So Isabel heads to Freya’s apartment, but when the front desk calls up, Freya phones The Father and orders him to complete his job and kill the journalist. After The Son’s “mission” with Peter, The Father had an “awakening.” He informs Freya he’s no longer working the job, returned her payment in full, and withdrew from field of work entirely. She warned him if he screwed her that he and his loved ones had better start looking over their shoulders, but The Father stuck to his word, hung up, and continued packing with his son to restart their lives.
When Adam recovers from the shootout, he calls POTUS, who tells him to add Peter to his hit list. Adam asks about the accusations that he and FLOTUS had ties to Monroe, but POTUS shuts them down and badmouths Peter, applying pressuring by reminding Adam his mission is “a matter of national security” and revealing he’s not the only member of their old team he brought into Night Action. Uh oh…
Elsewhere at the White House, Chelsea’s fiancé Theo, who’s been incredibly suspicious all season, redeems himself by sneaking into his colleague’s office and trying to kill a story that FLOTUS sent out to press that discredits Chelsea. When he’s caught, he quits, but not before he achieved his mission. In the car, Chelsea and Peter share a brief moment of peace and Peter reveals the last memory he had of his mom before she got sick was the two of them eating his favorite ice cream bar on the beach. He describes it, and though he doesn’t know the name, it’s clear that memory that kicked off the episode is his safe space.
When Freya finally lets Isabel in, Isabel lays out Monore’s damning evidence against her, but a confident Freya declines the interview offer. She feels she’s untouchable, but that all changes when two hit men break into her apartment guns drawn with orders to take her and Isabel out. The two narrowly escape thanks to Peter and Chelsea’s impeccable timing, and though Chelsea and Isabel make it back to The Register‘s office safely, Freya and Peter have trouble losing an assassin. They race through the city streets, through Grand Central Terminal, and even hop a subway trying to escape, but the armed man corners them and nearly kills Peter. Thanks to a last-minute assist from Freya, the two finally escape, only for Adam to cut off their exit with his gun drawn. He shoots Peter in the leg, purposefully ensures it won’t kill him. And before Adam follows through on his orders, Peter puts his life on the line to get through to him, promising, “Hagan is not a soldier anymore. He’s a politician. A liar. He’s using you to cover his tracks.”
After Adam lets them go free, they finally make it to The Register, where Freya agrees to give a live interview and spill all the dirt she has on POTUS and FLOTUS. She admits the first lady used her bank to launder money into her husband’s campaign, and says she’ll make a deal with the Justice Department. It’s a win for journalism, for Peter and team, and for America — unfortunately, when The Night Agent leaps forward five weeks, a news report reveals that the POTUS pardoned himself and his wife ahead of their Senate hearing.
Still, following the bombshell reporting, Jay and Isabel are thriving professionally. Chelsea and Theo are back on track with wedding planning. The Father carries out one last kill, on Freya, then goes to live a carefree life with his son. And Peter is taking some much-needed recovery time. Mosely tells Peter he started a review process for all Night Agents and can fill his partner request whenever he returns. But Peter considers an extension. In the final scene, he walks up to an ice cream stand in the park and sees his favorite bar from the memory of his mom. It’s called Razzmatazz. BRB, SOBBING! Peter deserves peace, but here’s hoping his not on leave for long. We need more Night Agent, Netflix!
