Stock futures are pointing to a mixed open for major indexes as investors assess a flood of earnings reports; memory stocks are sinking for a second straight day following news of an apparent breakthrough from a Chinese chipmaker; UnitedHealth shares are rising after the health insurer's earnings topped estimates; JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs and other major banks reported results this morning; and Johnson & Johnson shares are slipping after the drugmaker's results narrowly missed estimates. Here's what you need to know today.

Stock futures are mixed this morning as investors digest a flurry of big-name earnings reports. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were up 0.9% recently, while S&P 500 futures slipped 0.1% and futures tied to the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 0.7%. The major indexes put in a mixed performance to open the week yesterday, with the Dow gaining while the S&P and Nasdaq each lost ground. WTI crude oil futures were down 1.6% to $92.20 per barrel after rising yesterday following new attacks in Saudi Arabia. The yield on the 10-year Treasury was at 5.19%, down from Friday's close of 5.24%. (The U.S. bond market was closed yesterday for a federal holiday.) Gold futures were up 0.5% at $4,210 an ounce, while bitcoin traded at $83,100, up from an overnight low of just under $81,000.

Memory stocks are falling for a second straight day after an executive from a Chinese chipmaker called CXMT said over the weekend that the company has achieved a breakthrough in memory chip production. The company is looking to be the first to produce a new type of chip that packs the same amount of power in a smaller surface area, something its chipmaking rivals have been working on for years. While the chip has not been revealed yet and will take time to be put into production at scale, the development shows that Chinese firms are able to compete even with restrictions on what technology can be imported to the country, per Bloomberg. Shares of Micron (MU), Sandisk (SNDK) and SK Hynix (SKHY) were each down sharply in premarket trading, while the Roundhill Memory ETF (DRAM) fell more than 5%.

UnitedHealth Group (UNH) is one of many big names kicking off the third-quarter earnings season this morning. The health insurance giant said Tuesday it earned an adjusted $4.69 per share on $112.69 billion in revenue, each topping what analysts were expecting. The firm also said it now expects adjusted earnings of at least $20.50 per share for the full year, up from the prior range of $19.50 to $20.00. UnitedHealth stock rallied in the first half of the year as the company beat estimates. Shares have been pressured in recent weeks amid worries over how the star ratings of the company's Medicare Advantage plans could change, which would change the amount in bonus payments UnitedHealth receives, but analysts said the recent announcement of those ratings were better than some had feared. Shares of UnitedHealth, a Dow component, were up more than 2% ahead of the opening bell.

Several of the country's largest financial institutes released quarterly results this morning. Shares of JPMorgan Chase (JPM) wavered between losses and gains after the world's largest bank reported results that fell short of Wall Street estimates. Wells Fargo (WFC) shares were down 2% after the bank's net interest income and revenue fell short of estimates. Citigroup (C) shares were down slightly as net interest income fell short of analysts' estimates while earnings per share came in higher than anticipated. Shares of Goldman Sachs (GS) were up more than 3%, giving the Dow a boost, after the investment banking giant reported revenue and earnings that handily topped Wall Street expectations. The bank has been the subject of recent reports about a potential succession plan for CEO David Solomon.

Shares of Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) are falling this morning after the pharmaceutical and medical device maker posted a lackluster third quarter report. The company said Tuesday it generated $25.40 billion in sales, coming in just shy of analysts' estimates, while adjusted earnings of $2.59 per share came in 1 cent short of the consensus forecast. Even with the results that fell short, Johnson & Johnson still lifted its full-year sales and profit forecasts. J&J shares, which entered the day up 27% since the start of the year, were down 2% in recent premarket trading.
