The making of a QB draft steal starts with one massive factor By Ryan Dunleavy Published April 1, 2026, 5:43 p.m. ET You can dig up old so-called “way-too-early” mock drafts that separately project Carson Beck, Garrett Nussmeier and Drew Allar as the No. 1 overall pick.

Good luck finding many — or any — teams that have so much as a first-round grade on any of those three quarterbacks right now.

But when searching for quarterbacks who could overdeliver as rookies, looking back at their peak performances — Beck in 2023 at Georgia and in 2025 at Miami, Allar in 2024 at Penn State, and Nussmeier in 2024 at LSU — is a good place to start.

“There are a number of guys who had grades at some point over their college career to be drafted higher than they may go,” one NFL executive told The Post.
