Pat McAfee reveals struggles of getting Troy Aikman on his ESPN show

Pat McAfee said he isn’t sure where he stands with his ESPN colleague, Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman.

During Tuesday’s installment of “The Pat McAfee Show,” which taped live from the annual NFL meetings in Phoenix, McAfee explained his failed attempts to get the “Monday Night Football” analyst as a guest on his ESPN daily program.

“I don’t know how we are with Troy, I’ll be honest,” McAfee said when asked by ESPN NFL insider Peter Schrager if he had connected with Aikman at the league meetings.

McAfee explained he won’t take things personally, but mentioned how Aikman appeared on “The Rich Eisen Show” when it moved to ESPN in September.

“Then Rich Eisen’s first day on ESPN at noon, he’s on the show,” McAfee said. “Troy always tells us, ‘Can’t do it noon. Sorry, it’s impossible.’

“First day Rich [Eisen] is on, Troy’s like, ‘Get me on that phone.’”

ESPN signed Aikman, along with play-by-play announcer Buck, to multi-year deals in March 2022 after the pair worked together as Fox’s lead NFL broadcast team for 20 seasons, from 2002 to 2021.

The longtime duo is slated to call Super Bowl 2027 next February when the big game airs on ESPN for the first time.
