Small Cap Watch: Orthocell reports promising prostate surgery recovery data as Pilbara Gold extends high-grade discovery Proactive Mon, October 12, 2026 at 6:28 PM EDT 3 min read OCC.AX +4.48% PGL.AX +1.02% GC=F -0.10% ^AXSO -0.81% ORHHF Small Cap Watch: Orthocell reports promising prostate surgery recovery data as Pilbara Gold extends high-grade discovery Proactive uses images sourced from Shutterstock The S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index (ASX) edged lower in its latest session as investors weighed developments across the healthcare and resources sectors, including promising clinical results from Orthocell, further high-grade gold intersections from Pilbara Gold and a board appointment at Lumos Diagnostics.

The index closed at 3,278.90 points, down 3 points or 0.09%, extending its five-day decline to 46.60 points or 1.40%.

Despite the broader weakness, company-specific developments continued to provide opportunities for investors, with clinical advances, gold exploration results and corporate appointments driving the latest small-cap news.

Orthocell Ltd (ASX:OCC, OTC:ORHHF) has reported encouraging early functional recovery results from an initial case series involving its Remplir™ nerve repair technology in patients undergoing surgery for advanced prostate cancer.

The regenerative medicine company said the results, achieved in clinically complex patients following radical robotic prostatectomy, supported further investigation into Remplir's potential to improve recovery following prostate surgery.

The findings will help guide a planned prospective clinical trial assessing whether Remplir can support an earlier and more consistent return of erectile function and urinary continence following the procedure.

The clinical program builds on Remplir's established application in protecting and supporting peripheral nerve healing, with the technology gaining traction in prostate surgery.

Orthocell is developing regenerative medicine products designed to improve the repair and regeneration of damaged tissues, with Remplir forming a key part of its strategy to expand into new surgical applications.

Pilbara Gold Ltd (ASX:PGL) has delivered further high-grade gold intersections from the Terra Prospect at its Roe Hills Gold Project, approximately 100 kilometres east of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, confirming a mineralised corridor extending over 1,500 metres.

The latest reverse circulation drilling results include 11 metres at 3.63 g/t gold from 104 metres, including 6 metres at 5.85 g/t, and a separate intersection of 9 metres at 2.24 g/t gold from 144 metres, including 2 metres at 8.29 g/t.

Both intersections were recorded in drill hole 26RHRC016, demonstrating the presence of two distinct mineralised zones within the Terra South area.

Additional results included 11 metres at 1.04 g/t gold from 130 metres, 10 metres at 1.03 g/t from 119 metres and a higher-grade interval of 1 metre at 11.01 g/t from 82 metres.

The company said drilling had demonstrated strong continuity of mineralisation between drill fence lines, reinforcing the potential scale of the Terra gold corridor.

Importantly, mineralisation remains open to the north, south and at depth, providing opportunities for further exploration and potential resource growth.

The Roe Hills Project is within Western Australia's established Eastern Goldfields region, where Pilbara Gold is advancing exploration to define the extent and continuity of the emerging gold system.

Lumos Diagnostics Holdings Ltd (ASX:LDX, OTC:LDXHF) has appointed healthcare investment specialist Aizaz Syed as a non-executive director, bringing additional corporate strategy and life sciences investment experience to its board.

Syed represents Tenmile Ventures, Lumos' largest shareholder, and succeeds Lawrence Mehren, who has advised that he will not seek re-election at the company's annual general meeting.

The appointment took effect on October 12, 2026, with Mehren stepping down on the same date.

Syed has worked with healthcare and life sciences businesses on investment strategy, corporate development and growth initiatives, experience that could support Lumos as it advances its commercialisation strategy.

Lumos develops rapid point-of-care diagnostic technologies designed to provide timely testing results in clinical settings.

The board transition strengthens the representation of the company's largest shareholder as Lumos continues to pursue opportunities in the diagnostics market.
