Where Mets could turn if Freddy Peralta’s future isn’t in Queens comes with possible CBA twist

Jon Heyman Where Mets could turn if Freddy Peralta’s future isn’t in Queens comes with possible CBA twist By Jon Heyman Published March 31, 2026, 5:40 p.m. ET Mets starting pitcher Freddy Peralta (51) pitches against the Pittsburgh Pirates. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect If the Mets can’t work it out with new ace Freddy Peralta, a nice consolation prize might be superstar Tarik Skubal, who like Peralta is an impending free agent.

Peralta and the Mets are substantially apart on terms, with Peralta telling The Post he seeks “seven or eight” years.

The Mets gave up a lot for Peralta, so it’d be nice to keep him. But they’re far enough apart that they may not talk again until free agency.

Skubal, expected to set a pitching contract record, doesn’t seem very likely to remain a Tiger considering they offered $75 million over four years after 2024.
