Commanders broadcast in disbelief of stunning OT gaffe: ‘You gotta be kidding me’

Make New York Post a Preferred Source Like much of the football world, the Commanders’ radio booth was disgusted by the ending of their Week 5 matchup with the Giants on Sunday.

Bram Weinstein and London Fletcher angrily voiced their displeasure with the Commanders running out the clock in overtime to end the game in a 27-27 tie, seemingly mistakenly believing a time out would be called when there were none left.

“That’s not how you execute…that’s brutal,” he continued. “That’s on us.”

The pair went on to explain what Washington should have done in the moments leading up to the blunder.

“You gotta communicate to Jayden [Daniels], if he doesn’t have an opportunity to not have an open receiver right away, you gotta throw that football away,” Fletcher said.

The booth chalked the situation up to a “lack of communication, lack of understanding of the situation,” leaving them in disbelief and wondering why the team didn’t call on kicker Drew Stevens to attempt a field goal earlier from the Giants’ 24.

Postgame, head coach Dan Quinn took responsibility for the embarrassing ending.

“The sequencing of that does not fall on [Daniels],” Quinn said. “It’s an outside throw or a clock – an out of bounds throw, or a clock. That has to come from me. I have to put him in that spot. I can do that earlier and we can finish the kick earlier. We don’t need to gain more yards.”
