E-commerce and cloud-computing behemoth Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN, Financials) is allegedly eyeing a roughly $7 billion acquisition of artificial-intelligence company Decart as it aims to enhance its position across AI software, infrastructure and real-time video.Founded in 2023, Decart produces software that enables AI models to function on many processors and world models, such as those used in e-commerce, gaming and robotics.Amazon is already Decart's biggest customer and has used its technology across industries like Twitch, online shopping and its film and television activities, the report said. That existing relationship might make the possible purchase desirable on strategic terms. Decart's software also operates on several chip architectures, which might complement Amazon's drive to sell its own Trainium AI chips. The estimated price would be a steep premium to Decart's value of roughly $4 billion in May when the business secured $300 million in a fundraising round that included Nvidia.Anthropic has previously looked at a prospective deal at a valuation of approximately $6 billion before opting against it, the article said. The main concern for Amazon investors is whether Decart would add enough depth to AWS's AI ecosystem to warrant the premium. Software that enables developers shift workloads between CPUs might give Amazon an edge over competitor cloud and AI systems. The next catalyst will be if negotiations of an acquisition move forward and if Amazon confirms a deal near the estimated $7 billion value.
