Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is reportedly weighing a roughly $7 billion purchase of Decart, an artificial intelligence startup whose software helps developers switch between chips.

A deal could come together soon, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter, although the talks could collapse or another bidder could step in.

Amazon Web Services gave Decart early access to its custom Trainium3 chip in 2025, and the startup's chip-switching capability is becoming more important as companies race to secure computing power. Trainium is a family of custom AI chips developed by AWS to train and run machine learning and generative AI models. The chip competes with processors from Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA).

Amazon declined to comment on the report, noting that it does not comment on speculation. Decart did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request.

Market strategist at Futurum Equities Shay Boloor said in a post on X that Amazon is "effectively buying software expertise" to improve Trainium utilization and make its custom silicon more attractive as AI workloads spread across different chip architectures.

Decart was also a reported target for Anthropic, which Bloomberg reported in September had abandoned talks to buy the startup for about $6 billion.

The company, founded in 2023 by Dean Leitersdorf, Moshe Shalev, and Orian Leitersdorf, builds real-time generative video and interactive world models, including Oasis and Lucy.

It raised $300 million in a Series B round in May, led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia among the investors, pushing its valuation to nearly $4 billion. Existing investors Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Zeev Ventures were also involved.

Price Action: On Friday, Amazon closed 3.29% higher at $262.43 and gained 0.038% to $262.53 in extended trading.

Benzinga Edge rankings indicate Amazon's stock has a Momentum score in the 67th percentile and a Growth score in the 93rd percentile.
