How To Watch ‘Marshals’ Episode 3 On CBS And Online Where Is ‘Marshals’ Filmed? As a Yellowstone fan, Arielle Kebbel was eager to be in the orbit of the Dutton legacy in the new CBS drama Marshals. “I definitely felt the weight of and the obligation to respect the Y,” said Kebbel when asked if she felt prepared for the undertaking. “I felt that everyday walking onto set as did everyone else.” Kebbel plays Belle Skinner neé Turek, whose family also has a reputation in Paradise Valley. Formerly an ATF agent, Skinner jumps at the chance to become a Marshal under Pete “Cal” Calvin’s (Logan Marshall-Green) command and to move back home to be closer to her husband and young son.

While her teammates, Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos) and Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means) are unfamiliar with her past, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) immediately recognizes her. “Is she Skinner? Is she Turek? Who is she?” asked Kebbel as she pondered Belle’s identity crisis. “I’ve been fortunate to play a lot of physically tough characters recently—which I’m grateful for—but I loved being able to play Belle’s more feminine qualities too,” said Kebbel. While Kebbel notes that Belle is “clearly skilled with weapons,” she points out that her character is also a “very loving mother to her son” and a person who “takes care of her team.””

Belle’s worlds collide when the Marshals are called in to mediate a conflict between the residents of Broken Rock, the miners, and the locals. Whenever Belle is called to interact with the community, she is instantly on high alert. “The stakes are high for her,” said Kebbel. “Her teammates don’t know—except for Kayce—about the weight of the family history she carries.” When Belle lets it slide when a townswoman she spits in her face, the team begins to wonder what exactly is going on with her. “That’s another crack in Belle’s story,” said Kebbel.

Kebbel stopped by the Decider studio to talk about the series, dive into Belle’s complicated history, and more.

DECIDER: You’ve been on shows with major fanbases, but, even with that experience, did you feel prepared to enter the Sheridanverse? Because people already have opinions!

ARIELLE KEBBEL: I don’t know if prepared is the word. I definitely felt the weight of and the obligation to respect the Y. I felt that everyday walking onto set as did everyone else. I had great respect for Luke, for Taylor [Sheridan], and for 101 Studios, which was the result of the merger between CBS and Spencer Hudnut, our show creator. I feel like we all understood the assignment and took it seriously. It was a challenge that made everyone rise to the occasion.

Even in the first three episodes, there are so many thoughtful callbacks and key locations from the original series that reward close viewing of the original series.

We did film a lot in Park City, but we filmed all the exteriors at a place called Thousand Peaks, where they filmed the first couple of seasons of Yellowstone. It reminds us and the audience that the shows take place in the same universe. It was wonderful learning of the history of the place that Taylor loves so much. It’s where he shot a number of his movies too. The stunt guys like Michael Friedman would share war stories from back in the day. It was nice to become a part of that history too.

It has only been 3 episodes, but clearly there is more to Belle Skinner neé Turek than meets the eye. What drew you to this character?

Is she Skinner? Is she Turek? Who is she? We don’t know [laughs]. Several things drew me to Belle. There was something about the character’s name, Belle. There was a lightness there. I felt a pull towards the name that I have never experienced with a character before. I’ve been fortunate to play physically tough characters recently—which I’m grateful for—but I loved being able to play Belle’s more feminine qualities too.

She’s clearly skilled with weapons and working with horses. She’s very vocal about what works and doesn’t work for her. At the same time, she is a down-to-earth cowgirl who can be soft when she has to be. She’s a very loving mother to her son. She takes care of her team.

I spoke to your co-star Logan Marshall Green, and he described Belle as a character “who wears a lot of masks.” Is that accurate?

Hmmm…I understand where he’s coming from. I would probably phrase it more like she’s protecting a lot that has happened in her past. She is great at compartmentalizing. She can share this much here and that much here. Belle does her best to make sure her past does not intersect with the present for everyone’s sake. She comes from a wealthy family that has a complicated connection to this place. More about who she comes from will be revealed later this season, but things get messy. Belle is not great at messy.

Belle pivots from ATF to travel less, but she didn’t appreciate the ramifications of her going back home. What impact will her returning home have as the season goes on?

Going back is really hard on her. At the end of episode two, she tells Cal that it’s tougher than she thought it would be to come home again. When she was working with ATF, she was by herself and no one knew her. Now, she’s back. She has to be looking over her shoulder.

She’s gotta figure out how to decompress and not bring work home with her to the dinner table. She got what she wanted by being closer to home, but she definitely underestimated the stress of the job itself. She’s constantly back and forth between work mode and family mode. Somedays, she does have a harder time transitioning than others. That’s why she needs to lean on the team.

“I let him clean teeth, and he lets me fight crime.” I was shocked to learn that Belle is married to a dentist.

You and me both, babe [laughs]. I was like, what? The actor who plays my husband is wonderful to work with, but the character’s occupation itself! I was like: “Wait. There’s, like, a badass cowgirl married to a dentist?” Our creator Spencer knows what he’s doing. It’s perfect for the character, as you’ll see as the episodes go on.

Belle might be not dealing with the stress of job in the healthiest of ways. I was surprised that Episode 3 starts with Belle gambling, and she’s 10K in the hole! At first, I thought it was an undercover op, but then she uses her real name! Talk to me about that scene?

She has a problem [laughs]. Maybe that’s what Logan meant when he was taking about Belle wearing a mask. Listen, everybody has their thing. Again, as the season goes on, you’ll see what her husband’s thing is. I loved when I read it. I loved that Spencer put this piece into Belle. She’s got a high-octane job that is very dangerous. She needs to do something for herself before she goes home to her family.

She loves gambling because it’s a safer way to get that adrenaline rush. Plus, the answers are on the table. She has more control. I also connected to that interest of Belle’s. I was a huge fan of Celebrity Poker. I used to win all the time. I’d take down 20 guys at a time. Hopefully, we’ll see more of this side of her in Season 2. I do think it’s an important part of her story. It’s way more emotional than people may understand.

Belle also goes back to the Broken Rock with the team this episode. What are the stakes for Belle as her worlds collide once again?

The stakes are high for her. Her teammates don’t know—except for Kayce—about the weight of the family history she carries. She feels guilt about their actions, but that guilt also drives her sense of justice. She’s hoping to get through these encounters with the locals without any drama. Of course, there’s drama [laughs].

Someone who recognizes her spits on your character!

If you asked me if I was more surprised that she’s a gambler or that she gets spits on, I would have said the spitting [laughs]. Now, suddenly Cruz is wondering what’s going on. That’s another crack in Belle’s story. It’s definitely not something she’s ready to talk about yet. That was not a great day for her.

What can you tease about Belle’s journey this season?

There are many layers you get to see this season with Belle. We see her with the horses, we see her gambling, and we see her with her son. We have this looming threat from her family which becomes clear when a family member of hers does show up. That is a huge moment for her and eventually the rest of the team. At one point, we must go save a team member. We do a lot this season, both emotionally and physically.

Marshals airs Sunday nights at 8PM ET/PT on CBS
