Oscars 2026 Winners So Far (And Where The Winning Movies Are Streaming): Live Updates Dame Anna Wintour joined star Anne Hathaway at the 2026 Oscars for two hilarious bits in which the former Vogue editor and fashion icon finally acknowledged her reputation as the inspiration behind Meryl Streep‘s character in The Devil Wears Prada.

Wintour joined Hathaway on stage to present the Academy Awards for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup. Hathaway, herself an Oscar-winner for Les Miserables, started the first bit by explaining how important costumes are for cinematic storytelling. She elegantly referenced all of the nominated films before turning her attention to her own fashion choice for the evening.

“Anna, just curious,” Hathaway said. “What do you think of my dress tonight?”

Wintour, putting on her iconic shades, simply said, “And the nominees are…”

Then, after presenting the Oscar for Best Costume Design to Frankenstein‘s Kate Hawley, the duo went on to turn their attention to Best Hair and Makeup, which would go to Frankenstein‘s Mike Hill, Jordan Samuel, and Cliona Furey. Hathaway once again read the lead in and then asked, “Anna, would you like to read the nominees?”

Wintour, in perfect deadpan, said, “Thank you, Emily.”

The original The Devil Wears Prada is based on the book by Lauren Weisberger, who lifted inspiration for the tale from her own time hustling as an intern at Vogue. Because of this, the consensus has been for years that the fictional Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), editor-in-chief of fictional fashion mag Runway, is basically just a thinly-veiled portrait of Wintour herself. Wintour spent years attempting to keep her distance, but now that she’s relinquished Vogue to new editor-in-chief Chloe Malle, she seems finally willing to be in on the joke.

In case you’ve never seen the iconic early-aughts film, Anne Hathaway plays a young aspiring journalist named Andi Sachs who finds herself hired as an assistant to Miranda Priestly. Andi quickly learns that her boss has high expectations and little cause to be nice. Miranda infamously can’t be bothered to remember Andi’s name, so for the first half of the film, she simply calls her by the other assistant’s name, Emily (Emily Blunt).

The highly-anticipated sequel to the film, The Devil Wears Prada 2, comes out on May 1, 2026.
