Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), the cloud and e-commerce giant, blocked Meta's Muse from making purchases on its marketplace, putting control of the shopping experience at the center of an AI turf fight. Shares traded at $258.79 at 11.20am EST on October 8, down roughly 0.4%. The stakes stretch beyond checkout. An agent that picks the product can also influence which retailer gets the sale.

Amazon says the dispute starts with permission and security. According to Reuters, the company accused Muse of collecting customer data without authorization. Amazon also raised concerns about undisclosed account access and stored credentials. Meta (NASDAQ:META) says Muse cannot see users' passwords or payment methods and keeps credentials in secure storage. That leaves a basic disagreement: customer consent does not settle whether a retailer will welcome the agent.

For investors, the question is who captures the value when software does the shopping. Keeping purchases inside Amazon helps protect its customer relationship and the advertising opportunities surrounding product searches. But shoppers could drift toward merchants that let their preferred agents finish the job. The valuation snapshot shows shares just 3.33% above the $250.44 GF Value estimate, suggesting a modest premium rather than a stretched valuation. Amazon's challenge is to make its own shopping AI convenient enough to keep customers coming back.
