New York Knicks Stefan Bondy Jalen Brunson’s surprising Knicks money comment isn’t wrong — but it is premature By Stefan Bondy Published Feb. 19, 2026, 6:23 p.m. ET Jalen Brunson addresses reporters during a Jan. 20 press conference. Robert Sabo for the NY Post Jalen Brunson made an uncharacteristic comment about his future in an interview with Vanity Fair, referencing his financial sacrifice and desire for the Knicks to make him whole.

Specifically, Brunson said, “Obviously we’d love for them to do right by me. I think anyone would. I feel like I sacrificed.”

First off, the context: Tom Kludt, the author of the Vanity Fair piece, told me Brunson’s answer was prompted by a question. The star point guard didn’t bring it up himself.

So it could just be Brunson replying with an obvious statement, which he tends to do in interviews. Who wouldn’t want more money? Duh. But it is interesting for Brunson to insinuate the Knicks owe him.
